A Nairobi court has given the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) an extra 16 days to finalize its investigations and submit evidence against Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
The ruling, made by Anti-Corruption Magistrate Zipporah Gichana, came after the commission requested more time, stating that the investigations were still ongoing.
During a session at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, held weeks after Governor Natembeya’s arrest and subsequent release on bail, the EACC informed the court that it had not yet finalized compiling the evidence and requested additional time to do so.
“Despite the commotion surrounding Governor Natembeya’s arrest, the EACC has still not produced the evidence they intend to rely on,” stated Ndegwa Njiru, one of the governor’s lawyers.

Following the request by the Magistrate, Gichana, granted the commission its request and gave them until June 16 when the case will be mentioned again, to present the evidence.
The court allowed the EACC to finalize the investigations within the two weeks and submit the necessary evidence against the county chief.
