Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has finally addressed the public, providing a chilling account of his alleged abduction that has sparked widespread speculation and debate within Kenya’s political landscape.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Koimburi dismissed claims that he orchestrated the incident, insisting he was indeed abducted and subjected to a terrifying ordeal.
According to the MP, the abduction occurred on May 25, shortly after attending a church service at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya. He recounted how unidentified individuals confronted him, blindfolded him, and used a substance to drug him before whisking him away.
“It was May 25. I had just left church when I was approached by goons who covered my eyes and drugged me through the nose,” Koimburi stated.
He said he lost consciousness shortly after the attack and only came to the following day in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County. A Good Samaritan boda boda rider came to his aid and contacted his family, who quickly took him to hospital.
Condemning his ordeal, Koimburi called for greater national attention to the rising cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial acts.
“I urge Kenyans to continue praying for our country. The government must take these cases seriously. We cannot allow those responsible for abductions to continue operating with impunity,” he said.
However, the case has taken a controversial turn, with Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja accusing the MP of fabricating the abduction to stir political tension. Investigations involving three suspects have reportedly revealed inconsistencies in Koimburi’s version of events.
Authorities have questioned the motive behind what they believe may have been a staged incident, particularly given Koimburi’s political alignment with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Despite the controversy, Koimburi’s statement has reignited national concerns over the safety of politicians, forced disappearances, and growing insecurity. Pressure is mounting on law enforcement agencies to carry out a transparent and conclusive investigation into the case.
