Vocal activist Samuel Makori alias Kasmuel McOure found himself seeking refuge at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after claiming to receive credible threats to his life.
McOure, known for his penchant for sharp suits and afro, has an outspoken stance against the Finance Bill 2024 and government policies.
He took to social media late Wednesday night to alert his followers to his precarious situation.
“I am heading to the DCI because I feel unsafe,” McOure posted on his X account around 11:00 PM.
He described receiving threats that he deemed serious enough to warrant immediate action.
But when they got to the DCI, Mcoure and his entourag were sent to Muthaiga Police Station because they could not stay at DCI overnight.
Undeterred, McOure continued to update his supporters, pledging to keep them informed of his whereabouts as the night unfolded.
“I have recorded the statement and if they do not allow us to camp here, I will go into hiding and will update accordingly,” he tweeted, urging for prayers and solidarity.
McOure promised to keep in touch with his family because of the threats he received.
This worry follows a chaotic time for activists in the anti-Finance Bill protests Many were detained and allegedly mistreated by the police.

McOure’s activism has not been without controversy.
On June 25, he was reported missing, during the peak of demonstrations in Nairobi’s CBD. But later, he resurfaced, accusing authorities of attempting to suppress dissent through intimidation and coercion.
His release was followed by staunch criticism of government tactics and calls for justice for those affected by the protests.
The situation has sparked outcry from various quarters, with calls for transparency and accountability in handling dissenting voices. Legal minds such as LSK President Faith Odhiambo have been vocal in advocating for the safety of detainees, and criticizing what they see as random arrests and violations of civil rights.
