The national exams authority has announced the hiring of assessors for the oral and practical components of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 10, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) called on secondary school teachers and college instructors to apply for assessor roles in eight subjects, with applications open for 50 days.
“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is seeking to recruit secondary school teachers and college tutors to serve as assessors for the KCSE oral and practical exams from June 10 to July 30, 2025,” KNEC announced.
“They also noted that the chosen candidates will receive on-the-job training while assessing the 2025 KCSE examination papers.”
Individuals can explore opportunities in areas such as power mechanics, electrical studies, aviation technology, oral French, oral German, oral Arabic, Kenyan Sign Language, Signing Practical, and Music Practical.
KNEC outlined the steps applicants must take to ensure a successful application. First, all applications must be submitted through the official KNEC examiners’ portal, using their login credentials for the KNEC Contracted Professionals Portal (CP2).
KNEC advised that individuals who have forgotten their CP2 passwords should click the “Reset Password” option and input their mobile number in the format (2547********), then submit to receive a new password for accessing the portal.
Applicants without CP2 accounts were encouraged to register for a new account and follow the provided guidelines to obtain login credentials.
Once logged in successfully, applicants should complete and save their profile information. Afterward, they should navigate to the dashboard and select the option labeled “Apply for assessors’ vacancies.”
At this stage, all available positions will be displayed for applicants to choose from. KNEC emphasized that the slots are limited and only candidates who meet the qualifications and have submitted all the required documents will be shortlisted.
KNEC also outlined eight key requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for shortlisting.
To be eligible, a candidate must currently be a practicing teacher or tutor in the relevant subject area. Additionally, they must be registered with and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or an officially recognized professional organization.
Applicants must hold at least a diploma in Education or in the specific field of specialization. However, those applying as aviation technology assessors are specifically required to possess a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.
Candidates should also have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Moreover, they must not be under any investigation or facing disciplinary action from their employer.
Another requirement is a recommendation from the candidate’s head of institution or employer. Applicants must also be 50 years old or younger.
As for compensation, KCSE assessors typically earn between Ksh 50 and Ksh 70 per script, depending on the subject. They are also entitled to travel allowances, which vary based on their assigned station.
