Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has explained why the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula needs to be impeached.
Edwin Sifuna, who was addressing the press, said that Speaker Wetangula doesn’t deserve to run parliamentary proceedings because of the way he conducts and runs the meetings.
“This is perhaps the worst speaker in the history of this parliament because he is running the house as if he is a DJ at a disco matanga, and he is controlling the mic himself.
He can shut off anyone’s mic at any particular point in time; he interjects every time a member makes a contribution; every time it is just like him who wants to debate.” Sifuna said.
He goes on to point out that it was wrong for him to be elected to that position and condemns what he is doing in Parliament by favoring those who speak.
Furious, Edwin Sifuna did also share his disappointment with the Speaker, who had earlier notified the clerk that they don’t access the public galleries.
“The parliamentary debate should be opened to the public, and I am not even speaking as a member of the public… I am actually a member of parliament; how can I be denied access to the national assembly to listen to the debate and execute my role as a returning officer of the ODM to make sure we have all our votes against the Finance Bill?” Sifuna said.
He, however, congratulated the young generation who were marching on the streets advocating against the 2024 Finance Bill.
