Deputy President Kithure Kindiki faced a tough moment during an empowerment event in Othaya, Nyeri County, when a group of youths gathered outside the venue, shouting ‘Wantam’ slogans and threatening to disrupt the proceedings.
Kindiki had visited the area to launch the construction of the Othaya Modern Community Stadium, but the event was nearly thrown off course by the large crowd of young people protesting just beyond the perimeter fence.
Footage shared by Kenyans.co.ke showed the situation becoming tense, with the youth loudly heckling the Deputy President using the ‘Wantam’ chant—a slogan increasingly associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Mount Kenya region.
Although security had already been arranged, more police officers had to be brought in to keep the peace and ensure the event continued without further interruptions.

During the event, Kindiki—who has recently adopted a more outspoken tone—strongly criticized both the protesters and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He accused Gachagua of using intimidation tactics, especially against Mount Kenya leaders aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“This trend of leaders bullying others has to end. We need to treat each other with respect. Respect doesn’t mean submission,” Kindiki declared passionately.
