President William Ruto, who was addressing the nation today at State House, said he has just appointed an independent task force that will be responsible for carrying out a comprehensive forensic audit of public debt.
According to the Kenya Kwanza leader, the task force will report back in the next three months, providing Kenyans with clarity on the extent and nature of debt as well as how public resources have been expended, and will also recommend proposals for managing public debts.
“This audit will provide the people of Kenya with clarity on the extent and nature of our debt, how public resources have been expended, and will also recommend proposals for managing our public debts in a manner that is sustainable and does not burden future generations.” President Ruto said.
He also talked about the consequences of withdrawing the 2024 Finance Bill, which is a reduction of the revenue targets by 346 billion Ksh.
