President William Ruto has ordered that 20% of the affordable housing units built by the government be allocated to members of the disciplined forces, such as the Kenya Defence Forces and the police.

While addressing the public, President Ruto stated that the 20% allocation for the disciplined forces would be ringfenced to guarantee that members of the security sector directly benefit from government-supported housing projects.
President Ruto explained that the initiative aims to offer long-term housing stability for officers, many of whom struggle with accommodation, especially in expensive urban centers where government housing has traditionally fallen short.
“As part of our policy agenda, I wish to announce that 20 percent of the housing units under the affordable housing program will be allocated to the disciplined forces,” he stated. “These units will be ringfenced for members of the military, National Police Service, Kenya Prisons, and the National Youth Service.”
The Head of State noted that the government was also introducing flexible and subsidised financing options to ease homeownership for officers under the programme.
Under the new arrangement, officers will access single-digit interest rate loans—three per cent for those purchasing social housing, six per cent for affordable housing, and nine per cent for those buying high-market units.
