Kenyan president William Ruto has flagged off the first bunch of Kenyan soldiers to Haiti to help combat the ongoing gang violence.
Accompanied by interior CS Kithure Kindiki and other leaders yesterday, president Ruto flagged off the police at the Administration Police Training College, Embakasi.
Inspector General Koome named Senior Officer Otunge to lead the over 2,500 Kenyan police officers deploying to Haiti. This follows an agreement with the Haitian government outlining how the officers will operate amidst gang violence.
Joining other international forces, Kenya aims to bolster security in the capital alongside nations like Chile and Nigeria.
