Moses Kuria, currently serving as a senior advisor in President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), has suggested he may re-enter active politics in 2027, with the presidency as one of the positions he’s considering.
Despite his role in the government, Kuria has been sending mixed signals and hinting at possible collaborations with opposition parties. He asserted that nothing would prevent him from running in the next presidential race, quipping that the only position he’s barred from seeking is that of Women Representative.
Former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria believes his background in the private sector, public service, and active politics uniquely qualifies him to lead Kenya, particularly during a time of national division that calls for unifying leadership.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Kuria confirmed the possibility of running for president in 2027, expressing confidence in his readiness and credentials. “There is a possibility that I will run for president in 2027. I am more than ready and have all the necessary qualifications. The only position I cannot vie for is Woman Representative of Kiambu, but for all the others, I have every qualification,” he remarked.
When asked about the political party he would use for his 2027 presidential bid, Moses Kuria revealed he is currently in discussions with the Jubilee Party—once led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta—where he has expressed interest in the Secretary General position.
However, Kuria made it clear that if Jubilee does not align with his vision or accommodate his ambitions, he is prepared to revive and run under his own political outfit, Chama Cha Kazi, as an alternative platform for his presidential campaign.
Moses Kuria has expressed a willingness to collaborate with other political players but made it clear he won’t hesitate to go it alone if talks break down.
As interest in the 2027 presidential race continues to grow—with early alignments and political maneuvering already underway—Kuria reaffirmed that while he’s in discussions with the Jubilee Party, he still has his own party, Chama Cha Kazi, as a fallback option.
“We are talking with Jubilee, but I have a party despite giving them an offer. Whatever happens, I have an opportunity to make a difference, however little it might be. For me, I cherish an opportunity to be able to make a difference even if it’s for the day,” he said.
The former Cabinet Secretary for Trade also outlined his key priorities if elected president, which would include improving healthcare, boosting agriculture, creating jobs, and enhancing economic mobility.
Moses Kuria also took aim at certain government officials, accusing them of deploying hired goons to disrupt peaceful protests and stir up trouble among the youth.
Reflecting on his political journey, Kuria first entered Parliament in 2014 after the death of Gatundu South MP Jossy Ngugi, winning the seat unopposed on a TNA party ticket. He successfully defended the seat in the 2017 general elections under the Jubilee Party and served a full term until 2022.
